San Agustin, a municipality where once a pre-Colombian civilization thrived in the mountains where the Magdalena River originates, is the home of the Imbachi Family. Before becoming a coffee producer Carlos Imbachi worked as a treasure hunter, searching for artefacts left by the indigenous communities of San Agustin and selling them to collectors. With the proceeds from his endeavours, he built a house in the vereda of La Argentina for his family. It was there where he began cultivating coffee.  Over the years Carlos Imbachi has been somewhat as the godfather of speciality coffee within San Agustin - Huila.

Carlos Imbachi over the years, as he has aged, has taken a step back from overseeing the farming overall. He lives at the farm with his two sons, his daughter Sonia has her own farm she operates with her husband close by. In years past the coffee produced by Carlos Imbachi was under his name exclusively, then due to the vigorous involvement of the sons at the farm and over production, Carlos and his family made a mutually benefiting decision. Instead of separating land and his sons having separate names on their parchments it was they decided that they call the lots "FAMILIA IMBACHI ".

This allowed for the family to have more streamlined processes. Additionally from a financial standpoint, there's an important aspect to consider. In the past, when coffees were labelled and categorised under different names representing the family's sons, they faced unnecessary and excessive Colombian taxes, which eroded their profitability. Fast forward now and the farm is very much a collaborative effort across the entire family as they continue to produce arguably the best coffees from San Agustin.
